Reporter to Morang based Nigrani daily, Kishor Shrestha was arrested for publishing a status on social media page on May 12 in Urlabari, Morang. Morang lies in Province 1 of Nepal.
As per information received at Freedom Forum, reporter Shrestha was briefly detained for posting a status about a suspicious object at Kankai bridge of Jhapa on facebook.
Later, he was released after an hour convincing police that he had shared the information on Facebook for quick circulation and to help the police.
Freedom Forum is concerned over the arrest and detention as it is violation of freedom of expression and information. Harassing the reporter or public merely for sharing the information on social media is condemnable. Hence, FF urges the concerned authority to be aware of and respect the right to information and freedom of expression.
