Just a day after the journalists were threatened of physical attack by a Mayor of Itahari Sub-Metropolis, a journalist Dil Bahadur Rai was attacked mercilessly in a nearby Dharan city at his office for an unknown reason. Journalist Rai on duty was attacked by a local Phurwa Sherpa leaving him injured on June 4. Dharan lies in Province 1.
Journalist Rai was on duty at TBR online television which is located in Dharan-Chatara Line.
FF's representative from Province 1, Bikram Niraula, Phurwa pelted stone on journalist Rai. But the reason behind the attack is yet to be known. Journalist Rai sustained an injury on the head and has been receiving treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.
Following the incident, Sherpa was arrested by Area Police Office, Dharan.
The incident is condemnable. The journalist is attacked on duty. It is a serious threat to press freedom. Hence, FF strongly urges the concerned authority to investigate the case seriously and ensure justice to the journalist.
