Custom Officer misbehaves with journalists

Reporters Santosh Baraili and Shuvendar Das were misbehavedd by a customs officers in Dhanusa on December 4. Dhanusa lies in Province 2 of Nepal.

Baraili and Das are associated with Kantipur daily and Samacharpatra daily respectively. 

According to the information received at Freedom Forum, the reporters had reached Janakpurdham- Jatahi custom office at Nepal-India border to report on a bribery case. The reporters were misbehaved after they tried to take pictures of the officer asking for illegal money with the service seekers.

Fredom Forum is concerned over the incident as it is sheer violation of press freedom. Reporting on the social issues and exposing irregularities is the prior duty of journalists. Hence, FF strongly urges the concerned authority to address the issue and respect the rights of journalists for free reporting ensuring their safety.
