Police officer manhandles television reporter in Morang

Gopal Kafle, Morang based correspondent with Avenues Television was manhandled by police persons on December 15 in Morang. Morang lies in Province 1 of Nepal.

Talking to Freedom Forum's central monitoring desk, reporter Kafle shared that he was manhandled while covering the demonstration of slum dwellers. Reporter Kafle was recording live video of the chaos among demonstrators and police persons for television with his mobile.

"While recording video, one of the police officers seized my mobile and caught my collar threatening not to record the video. The officer also broke the camera of mobile even after I showed him identity card as a journalist", informed reporter Kafle.

The reporter has urged for the apology from the officer for his behavior with the on-duty journalist.

Freedom Forum condemns the incident as it is a gross violation of press freedom. Security officials should be aware of the free reporting right of journalists. Hence, FF strongly urges the concerned authority to apologize for the misbehavior with the on-duty journalist and not repeat again.
