Protestors indiscriminately bounce on journalist BC

Reporter for Surkhet based Kakrebihar daily Punam BC was attacked in Surkhet on March 3, 2020. Surkhet lies in Karnali Province of Nepal.

As per the information provided by FF's representative Laxmi Bhandari, reporter BC was attacked by the protestors while he was on the way back to home from work on last Tuesday.

Reporter for Surkhet based Kakrebihar daily Punam BC was attacked in Surkhet on March 3, 2020. Surkhet lies in Karnali Province of Nepal.

As per the information provided by FF's representative Laxmi Bhandari, reporter BC was attacked by the protestors while he was on the way back to home from work on last Tuesday.

The irate protestors indiscriminately bounced on him when he approached the former to know the reason behind the protest, informed representative Bhandari quoting the reporter BC.

He has sustained minor injuries on his face and hands.

The attackers who were arrested for meting out misbehave against journalist were released after mutual understanding, Bhandari further informed quoting Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravi Rawal.

Freedom Forum condemns this incident, as it is sheer violation of press freedom, the rights guaranteed in the constitution. Even though the case was sorted out peacefully later, attacking a journalist in course of reporting disturb the atmosphere for free reporting. The protesters must be respectful of the journalists and reporters and should be aware of their rights in such events. Hence, FF strongly urges the concerned authority to ensure safety of the journalists and secure their working environment.
