Nepal police arrested a right to information activist Deepak Acharya from Gandaki Province on September 21.
According to Bishnu Chaulagain, a fellow activist, Acharya is actively involved in requesting information from the police administration as well as other public agencies.
On the day of arrest, Acharya received a call from the police station requesting him to attend a meeting to discuss on his personal issue. Thereafter, he was taken under control on the basis of a complaint filed at the police station.
He was released on September 27 after seven days.
Freedom Forum is concerned over the incident. Though Acharya was arrested for his personal issue, FF urges the security authority to investigate the case fairly and take care not to harass him while in detention. FF also demands his immediate release.
