Newspapers offices ransacked

An unidentified gang vandalised the offices of two local dailies —Pokharapatra and Dainik Lumbini at Waling Municipality of Syangja district located in the western region of Nepal on December 28, Sunday. The offices of the dailies, located in the same building, were entered after the group forced the padlocks from the locked doors. "When I came to the office in the morning, I found the padlocks were broken, our office had been vandalised and even our office stamps were missing," said Srikrishna Sigdel, a journalist with Pokharapatra daily.

Following the incident, local journalists demanded that the government apprehend the perpetrators and provide security.

Freedom Forum strongly deplores the incident and urged government to create a safe environment for journalists to discharge their duty in a free way.
