Journalists reached in front of District Police office, Kaski were obstructed by the police officials while reporting on November 17. Kaski lies in Gandaki Province of Nepal.
As per information provided by Rajan Pokhrel, representative from Gandaki Province, on-duty police ordered journalists to stop taking photos and videos in front of the police office while they were reporting on the arrest of Rastriya Swotantra Party’s president Rabi Lamichhane. They were recording police attempt to arrest the party’s cadres who were protesting Lamichhane’s arrest. A police officer also tried to seize the camera of reporter Sandesh Baral from samayanepal.com and Om Hamal from janasanchar.com, according to representative Pokhrel.
Freedom Forum condemns police hostility towards working journalists. Reporting on public issues and making citizens informed is the duty of journalists and the police should cooperate with journalists to disseminate information in public.
