Chief District Officer (CDO) of Dadeldhura, Chomendra Neupane, issued a written threat over publication of a news article on January 1. Dadeldhura lies in Sudurpaschim Province of Nepal.
CDO Neupane used a letterhead of his office to ask simananews.com to take down the news and issue regret over the news publication.
The online media had published news on CDO Neupane's involvement in an illegal collection of money from local offices and municipalities in the province in the name of a minister in province. News was published on December 31, 2024.
Freedom Forum condemns the threat issued to media. Any concern regarding published news can be addressed through legal means or by filing a complaint with the Press Council Nepal. FF believes issuance of threat using office letterhead is sheer misuse of authority.
