Reporter injured in attack

Bajhang based reporter to Nepal Samacharpatra National daily Lalit Bahadur Singh was attacked on February 10 in Bajhang. Bajhang is located in the Sudurpaschim Province of Nepal.

Reporter Singh is also the President of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Bajhang branch.

According to Freedom Forum's representative for the province Min Bam, journalist Singh was attacked at night- around 11:30 pm- in a local hotel. Representative Bam informed that a local Binod Kathayat's group called Singh in the hotel and attacked him with a knife.

Journalist Singh sustained a serious injury in his forehead in the incident. He was then, taken to the District Hospital Bajhang for treatment.

Bam further informed that the police had arrested three people and search for other attackers was continued. As the case is under investigation, motive of the attack is yet unknown, said representative Bam.

Reporter Singh filed a complaint at District Police Office, Bajhang today (February 11).

Freedom Forum is concerned over the incident. Such brutal attack upon journalist is a serious threat to free press and creates fear among fellow journalists.

FF urges the concerned authority to conduct fair investigation on the case and ensure justice to the journalists.
