Reporter at madheshmirror.com, Krishna Kumar Mandal received threat for covering news. The incident took place in Saptari, Madhesh Province on May 16.
According to Freedom Forum representative for the province, Rajan Singh, reporter Mandal had published news on May 14 mentioning that Treasurer of District Bar Association Advocate Nilam Kumar Yadav charged the public Rs. 5110 instead of official Rs. 110 for registration of a complaint. Following its publication on the news portal, Advocate Yadav’s brother Santosh Chaman abused reporter Mandal as- blackmailer or a fake journalist- through a post on his Facebook page.
Representative Singh further informed that Chaman had sought administrative action against the reporter for the published news. He threatened Mandal saying- It won’t be good for him if he continued writing news against advocate Yadav.
Freedom Forum condemns the threat issued to journalist. Abusing and threatening a journalist for his news reporting is a gross violation of press freedom. FF strongly urges the concerned to rather file a complaint at the Press Council Nepal and follow legitimate process.
