Freedom Forum is concerned over death threats issued to comedian Amarendra Yadav. On August 18, Yadav shared that he has been facing continuous threats for the past 3 days following the comedy show in which he roasts political leaders through a Facebook post.
in his post, Yadav writes- For the past 3 days, ever since the video was made public, I have been continuously facing death threats. I amnot sure who thet are but I am being personally abused and harassed. Now, I am afraid to leave my room. How long am I supposed to stay inside my room? He has also requested to take the roasting as an entertainment and comedy as it is his profession and in no way related to politics.
Responding to Yadav's post, political leader Surya Thapa who was also present in the show wrote on his Facebook post on August 19 that he has the courage to listen to and face critical questions. "I was fully aware that I might be roasted by the comedians and I was prepared to accept it", Thapa writes.
Freedom Forum strongly urges the security authorities to ensure Yadav’s safety and protect freedom of artistic expression. An artist should not be intimidated merely for exercising his/ her right to artistic freedom.
