Journalists Arrested and Attacked

An unidentified group assaulted vice-president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Saptari chapter, Abadesh Jha and news Correspondent for News Today Sanatan Mandal on November 5, 2008 at around 8:00 pm in Biratnagar-14, Morang, eastern Nepal.

A group of about four or five people held the two journalists for about twenty minutes while physically assaulting them, said FNJ Morang Chapter President Sambhu Bhandari. The attackers also took away their cell phones and cash. The reason for the attack is not yet known.

Freedom Forum deplores the attack on the journalists and asked the concerned authority to remain alert on anti-press freedom incidents occurred in various parts of the country.
