Maoist youth-wing Young Communist League (YCL) has once again assaulted a journalist. Siddharaj Rai, a journalist as well as a member of Press Chautari Nepal (an association of journalists), was attacked by YCL men in Dhankuta on Saturday, August 30.
While the reason for the attack has yet to be known, the victim journalist is said to have been injured in head and hand.
According to IPI, Nepal chapter, a group of YCL activists attacked journalist Rai in downtown Dhankuta, in eastern Nepal. Press Chautari Nepal issued a statement on Saturday, deploring the attack on its member as an example of "continued Maoist arrogance against free media" even after formation of Maoist-led government.
Freedom Forum shows its concerns to the incident and demands with the government to immediately punish the perpetrators.
