Parsa-Two media professionals were physically assaulted by activists of Madhesi People's Rights Forum (MPRF) in Birgunj in central southern district of Parsa, on Tuesday, July 15, 2008.
A group of some 15-20 MPRF activists entered into the office of newspaper Kripa Daily, and assaulted its managing director Kamal Upadhyaya and editor Krishna Khanal, according to the information received to Freedom Forum.
According to the information, these men also smashed furniture and damaged files as well as some equipment in the newspaper's office. The cause of the attack was a news item published in the daily a few days ago. The actual content of the news that provoked their ire is yet to be verified.
Journalists' community in the district has protested the assault on the newspaper. Freedom Forum also denounces this assault and urges all to follow decent ways of showing disapproval with contents published in newspapers.
