The security personnel did not stop beating him even though he showed his press card, said journalist Parajuli. Following the incident, local journalists had approached Chief District Officer (CDO) Madhav Prasad Regmi demanding that the guilty security personnel to be brought to punishment.
However, CDO Regmi walked out from the meeting refusing to listen to the demands put forth by journalist. Only two weeks ago, APF personnel had assaulted three journalists in the district. In the meeting then, CDO Regmi had expressed his commitment that such cases would not be taken places in coming days.
Fiver persons were inured in a scuffle between the cadres of Young Communist League (YCL) and local youths following a dispute regarding tender's registration at Biratnagar on July 6.
The clash ensued when some hooligans tried to stop contractor from registering their tender form and tore them at the Town Residential Board Development.
Freedom Forum condemns this type of abominable act carried out by the police personnel who are mostly responsible to ensure security to all citizens including professional group and sought strong actions against the guilty police personnel. It also draws the attention of the Home Ministry over the naked intervention of the police and asks to make public the views of police force over the journalists and their profession.
