Vehicle ferrying journalist vandalized

Vehicle ferrying journalists was vandalized in Nepalgunj, lies in the mid-western part of Nepal, by All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU), a student wing allied to UCPN-Maoist on June 16.

A group of journalist including Kiran Nepal, editor of Himal Khabar Patrika, Ramji Dahal, Secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalist, Indra Shrestha, Rameshwor Bohara and Reema Shrestha were going to Nepalgunj Bazar from Nepalgunj Airport while the incident occurred.

Tense in gulfed in Nepalgunj for the last 2 days due to the rift between student and transport entrepreneurs. According to Ramji Dahal, demonstrators attacked their vehicle despite of showing press card.

Freedom Forum denounces brutal act of vandalizing the vehicle ferrying the journalists and calls on the UCPN-Maoist to pay respect to journalist right to collect news and views. Forum also asks the government to take concrete initiatives towards safeguarding the right to press freedom and freedom of expression.
