Scribe escapes with life after being shot at

Two unidentified armed men on Monday (June 14) attempted to shoot Mohan Gole, Udayapur correspondent of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), at Hariharpur in Dhanusha, an eastern district of Nepal.

According to the police, unidentified assailants opened fire on him while he was riding his motorcycle but one of the shots hit the visor of his helmet while another missed him completely.

The motorcycle-borne duo opened fire at the motorbike ridden by Gole on his way to Janakpur with pillion rider Srijana Danuwar but none was hurt. The police said that they started a search to nab the culprits.

The security situation in Janakpur and its vicinity has been deteriorating of late. Four people, including a minor, were shot dead within the past week here while one critically injured is undergoing treatment at Dharan.

Freedom Forum strongly condemns the incident and urges the government to investigate into the incident at the earliest. Further, it is visible fact that government is being failed to provide security to journalists and to punish the culprits of sporadic criminal activities. The Forum asks the government to provide physical security to journalists and work proactively to curb such crimes against journalists.
