Police officer thrashes media staffer

On October 10, an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of the Armed Police Force (APF), Shambhu Kumar Sah, thrashed Satish Sharma, a driver of Nepal Republic Media– a private publication house that publishes "Nagarik" and "Republica" dailies— in eastern Siraha district of Nepal.

Sah slapped Sharma, who was on his duty to distribute "Republica" and "Nagarik" newspapers in eastern region, for moving his vehicle quickly after dispatching a bundle of newspapers to distributor Jitendra Chaudhari.

Superintendent of Police (APF) Rabindra Thakur said he would take necessary action against Sah.

Freedom Forum is concerned over the incident it is carried out by a responsible government official who is accountable to safeguard people's right. Freedom Forum asks government to investigate the incident and bring the guilty to book as soon as possible and to assure that such incident do not recur.
