Freedom Forum—Nepal, a media watchdog organization of Nepal strongly deplores the attack on Journalist Balaram Khadka, a local correspondent of "Himalayan Television", "Gorakshya Daily" and "Radio Indreni".
A group of about 10 men wielding knives and iron rods attacked and injured journalist Balaram Khadka in Tulsipur, Dang, a mid-western district of Nepal on November 7, 2010 while he was watching a Deusi-Bhailo programme.
According to police sources, Khadka was attacked near his residence at Tulsipur Municipality--2.
Injured Khadka was referred to Kohalkpur Teaching Hospital after primary treatment at the Tulsipur-based Rapti Zonal Hospital. "Police arrested Sushil KC, Keshar Wali, Buddhi Gurung, Dev Wali, Chhabilal Sunar and Manoj Yogi in connection with the incident. “Investigation is on. We will take strong action if they are found guilty,” the police said.
Freedom Forum urges the government to take immediate investigation into the incident so as to bring the guilty to book. Further, Freedom Forum asks the local authority to provide enough security to the victim journalist.
