Journalist Attacked, Manhandled and Looted:

Freedom Forum is concerned over the continued incidents of attack against media and journalists in Nepal. 

Unknown group of persons have attacked journalist Dugra Bisi of Radio Salyan-Mid-western district of Nepal with sharp weapon at 6 February 2011. The group attacked journalist Bisi at Mulkhola VDC-8 while writerning back to home from office. The reason of attack has not been disclosed the persons attacking journalist Bisi.

Journalist Bisi has been seriously insured due to the attack. Team has attacked Bisi at seven different part of the body including hand, leg and head. Bisi has been admitted at Nepalgunj Hospital. 

In separate incident, Milan Pariyar, correspondent of Naya Patrika National Daily in Doti- Far western district of Nepal has been manhandled by local youths of Doti district headquarter Silgadhi. According to journalist Pariyar, his own uncle Basanta Shob and another person Promod shob attacked him because of their dissatisfaction over the news published a month ago. This incident had also happened at 6 February.

In the different case, correspondent of Nagarik national daily, Netra Tamang  have been looted by the group of unidentified persons in Kathmandu on Friday 3 February 2011. 

Freedom Forum condemns the incidents. Forum calls upon government and local authority to immediately take action upon the press freedom violators.  Forum takes such incidents of press violation within three days of formation of new government as dark sign for media and journalists in Nepal. Forum requests new government to come up with special measure to control anti-press incidents and make media friendly environment on the days to come.
