MJF Cadres torch Kantipur Daily

Cadres of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) burnt copies of Kantipur Daily in Kalaiya on May 10, 2011.
The irate cadres burnt some 25 to 30 copies protesting against the news being published in the newspaper conerning the names of the party lawmakers involved in diplomatic passport scandal, according to a news posted on e-Kantipur.

They burnt the copies of Kantipur Daily from Shrestha Stationary this morning under the co-ordination of district party chairman Chuman Babu Kamet at Bharat Chowk, Kalaiya.

They have accused Kantipur of publishing such news with the intention to defame the Madhesi lawmakers.
Kamet has also warned to prohibit the circulation of Kantipur Daily in Madhesh if it reiterates to publish same kinds of news.

Terming this act a blow against journalists' right to exercise constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of expression and people's access to information, Freedom Forum Nepal demands the local administration bring the guilty party to book. The Forum also asks the government to stand up against such press gagging efforts and come up with measures to put impunity to an end so as to create working environment for journalists.
