death threat labeled against journalist Lama

Freedom Forum's attention has been drawn towards incident that a journalist Hira Man Lama, working at the Namobuddha FM in Kavre district, a district nearby the capital city, was issued death threat over telephone by an unknown person on March 1, 2011.

The death threat was labeled against journalist Lama demanding to stop a programme named 'public hearing' related to local administration being aired through the Namobuddha FM. He is the joint-coordinator of the programme.

Freedom Forum, as an organization working for freedom of expression and right to information condemns mistreatment meted out against journalist and violating people’s right to get information. Both incidents are the violation of right to information. Freedom Forum, therefore, urges the Committee Chief Baduwal to respect right to information by providing the information journalist required. Moreover, the concerned local administrations are urged strongly to investigate into the incidents and bring the guilty ones to book.
