Freedom Forum's attention has been drawn again towards an anti-press incident occurred at Saptari, a district in the southern plain in the east of the country on June 1, 2011.
The banda (general strike) organizers along the Kalyanpur section of the East-West Highway in the district smashed the windshield of the vehicle (Ko 1 Cha 4552) belonging to the Republica and Nagarik national dailies without any reason. The vehicle was en route to Biratnagar from Janakpur after delivering the newspapers.
Freedom Forum condemns the incident which directly hindered the distribution of the newspapers thereby depriving people of their right to know. Therefore, Freedom Forum strongly urges the State authority to create an environment conducive for media where people's right to information can be protected and promoted.
