Death Threat to Journalist in Nepalgunj

Freedom Forum's attention has been drawn towards an incident occurred at Nepalgunj, a city in the Midwest of the southern plain of Nepal.

Uday Singh Shrestha, publisher and editor of a local daily paper, Nispakshya Dhwani, was threatened of life by a trader Raju Shrestha on June 22 over the news editor Shrestha wrote about the growing irregularities on export of coal and rice chaff.

"Trader Raju Shrestha said the news challenged his business of coal and rice chaff. So, he would take journo Shrestha's life," Jhalak Gaire, a local journalist said, quoting editor Shrestha.

Freedom Forum expresses grave concern to the incident and strongly urges the local administration to probe into the incident. The administration is also urged to provide security to the journalists so as to create environment conducive for the freedom of expression and right to information.
