Editor Ghimire Threatened of Physical Action

Freedom Forum's attention has been drawn towards an incident occurred at Dharan, a city in the eastern hilly region of Nepal on August 1, 2011.

Editor of a local Fast Times daily, Keshav Ghimire was threatened of physical action on the night of July 31, 2011.

He was threatened after the news he published in his paper on 'Youth attacked in front of Senior Superintendent of Police' on July 29.

Talking to the Freedom Forum's Media Monitoring Desk, editor Mr Ghimire said a local gangsters' leader, Thaman Gurung complained why he published the news stating his name time and again and threatened him of taking physical action.

Freedom Forum condemns the threat issued to Editor Ghimire and urges the local administration to provide security to the journalist to carryout his works in a free and fair atmosphere so as to protect and promote people's right to information.
