Journalist Manhandled

Freedom Forum's attention has been drawn towards an incident occurred in the Capital City, Kathmandu on August 6, 2011 that journalist Manoj Ghimire was manhandled by a security person in course of sports reporting.

Journalist Ghimire affiliated to the Rajdhani national daily published from the Capital was roughed up by police inspector Hari Bashyal while trying to cover the news about the U-16 SAF Championship Football Tournament being played by Nepal and Sri Lanka on August 6.

He was also barred by the security person from entering the stadium premises in spite of showing his press card.

Freedom Forum, as an organization working in the sector of media freedom and right to information, condemns the incident and urges the concerned bodies to respect media freedom to promote people's right to information and ensure safe environment for the journalists to carry out their works.
