Policepersons beat up Journalists

Yet again, Freedom Forum has been concerned over an incident of press freedom violation occurred in Dailekh, a far western district in the hilly region of Nepal, on September 12, 2011.

Policepersons beat up journalists-Bhupendra Shahi, reporter to Avenues Television, Ratna Shahi and reporter to Himalayan Television while they were returning home from a local Panchakoshi Community FM at 9:00pm in the district headquarters.

Talking to Media Monitoring Desk of Freedom Forum, journalist Bhupendra Shahi said, a head constable on the patrol said, "These are the journalists working for TVs and make news on everything so let's beat up."

Then the police patrol began kicking and baton-charging all randomly on us, he added.

In this way, the security persons who are mobilized to maintain peace and security are involved in creating terror and beating up journalists.

Freedom Forum condemns the incident as the body to provide safety and protection to the people is itself beating up journalists. Therefore, the administration in the district must take action against the guilty ones involved in the beating.
