Inebriated Police Beat up Journalists

Freedom Forum has been concerned over yet another incident that an inebriated police person beat up two journalists at Dulegauda of Tanahu, a hilly district in the western part of the country, on September 12.

According to Prem Poudel, editor of the Lokbani daily published in the district, an inebriated police beat up Dipendra Poudel and Ram Sharan Nepali, journalists working at the Dhorbahari FM, while they were returning home from the FM on Monday night. The drunken police, all of a sudden, roughed up and slapped the journalists.

Policeperson is a unit of the security mechanism which is responsible to maintain peace and provide security to the people. But the policeperson here on duty was drunk and acted irresponsibly and beat up the journalists. Such incident creates terror among journalists which directly hampers their role on press freedom and right to information.

Therefore, Freedom Forum urges the concerned administration to take action against the guilty police person and help create safe environment where journalists can work properly.
