Journalist Threatened of Action in Jhapa

Freedom Forum has been alarmed over an incident of press freedom violation occurred in Jhapa, eastern most district in the southern plain of Nepal, on December 1, 2011.

Krishna Humagain, Editoir-In-Chief of the Arjundhara daily in the district, was threatened of action over seeking information.

Talking to Freedom Forum's Media Monitoring Desk, Editor-In-Chief Humagain said member of the District Sports Development Committee, Milan Prasain threatened him of action while seeking information about the ongoing eastern regional sports competition.

Moreover, Prasain accused him of distributing news based on geography.

The charge is almost illogical and irrelevant because it is the duty of a journalist to inform citizens.

Therefore, Freedom Forum urges the concerned authority to provide information sought by the journalist and the local administration to keep vigil for the security of journalist in order to protect citizen's right to information.
