Journalist Manhandled in Bajura

Yet again, an incident of press freedom violation has occurred in a district in the far western region of Nepal, Bajura, on March 7, 2012.

Two tipsy persons, one named Bhakta Bahadur Budha among them, seized the camera journalist Sher Bahadur Khadka was using to take a picture of a cultural program at Atichaur VDC in the district.

Talking to Media Monitoring Desk of the Freedom Forum, reporter Khadka affiliated with the Radio Bajura, said, the tipsy men manhandled him, saying, 'why are you taking picture?'

Journalists have been the butt of attack and threats from various sorts of persons including rowdy drunkards.

As the rights of journalist to make news about the public program was violated, it was obviously the violation of press freedom. Also, it violated people's right to information.

Freedom Forum wants rigorous action to the culprits by the concerned administration in order to deter the fear and self-censorship among the journalists.
