Police attack RSS Journalist

A journalist with the National News Agency (RSS) of Nepal, Ratna Shrestha, was attacked by police persons while making news about a road accident in Bhaktpur, a neighbouring district of Kathmandu, on April 23, 2012.

According to journalist Shrestha, he was baton charged by police persons while he was taking picture of bus collision and death of a passenger at Bhaktapur along the Araniko Highway.

"I informed police I was a journalist but he continued beating me with baton," journalist Shrestha said to Freedom Forum Media Monitoring Desk.

Freedom Forum condemns the incident and strongly urges police administration to take action on the culprit. As a responsible government body, the police administration must heed journalists' rights and people's right to information.
