Demonstrators vandalize press vehicle

A vehicle belonging to the Nagarik daily was vandalized at Inaruwa Chowk of Sunsari, a district in the southern plain of the eastern part of Nepal, on May 10, 2012.

According to the Nagarik daily, the vehicle was vandalized by demonstrators of Muslim community while returning after distributing the newspaper.

The people of the Muslim community were demonstrating at Inaruwa as part of the Nepal banda (nationwide shutdown) organized by Brahmin, Chhetri, Muslim and other communities.

With the deadline to promulgate constitution is round the corner, various ethnic communities have mounted pressure programs to have their demands addressed in new constitution.

Freedom Forum therefore urges the concerned administrations to provide security to the media and journalists to make news in a free and safe atmosphere.
