Death Threat to Journalist Bhattarai

Freedom Forum has been concerned over an incident of press freedom violation occurred in Kalikot, a hilly district in the Midwestern region of Nepal on June 14, 2012.

An unknown person issued death threat on Arjun Bhattarai, reporter with the New Karnali monthly, by phone.

Talking to Freedom Forum's media monitoring desk, reporter Bhattarai said, "Without any reason, an unknown person warned me of killing if I continued reporting any more."

The phone number is 9816512357, according to him. He added that the unknown person also warned of burning his magazine and torch office assets.

The life threat to journalist is responsible for increasing self-censorship among journalists.

Freedom Forum, therefore, strongly urges the concerned authority to seek the person threatening journalist of life, arrest him and mete out punishment.
