Journalist Attacked

Reporter with the Bageshwori FM of Nepalgunj, a city in the mid-west of southern plain in Nepal was attacked by an unknown gang on July 17, 2012.

Talking to Freedom Forum's Media Monitoring Desk, journalist Giri said he was attacked by an unknown gang while going to Office-Bageshwori FM. However, he managed to escape injuries, he added.

He also works as a reporter to a local Nepalgunj Parivesh daily.

It is noted here that he was attacked in April 29, 2011 and issued death threat on March 8, 2011 by the unknown gang.

According to journalist Giri, he was issued death threat and made attack last year over a news he published about the underground armed outfit waging struggle in the southern plain.

Freedom Forum condemns the attack and strongly urges the local administration to provide ample security to journalist Giri to ward off possible attack. Equally important, the administration needs to search attackers and mete out punishment in order to help check growing impunity and boost up journalists' morale.
