Minister's Secretary Issues Death Threat on Reporter

Hiranath Khatiwada, personal secretary to a minister, has issued death threat on reporter Nirajan Poudel over a news report recently.

Poudel, reporter with the Karobar daily from Nuwakot, a district near the capital city, was issued death threat by the secretary of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Post Bahadur Bogati over the news related to the misuse of minister's vehicle by secretary Khatiwada.

According to the reporter Poudel, personal secretary grabbed him by neck and said, "I'll finish you as you wrote news about me."
Freedom Forum condemns the incident and demands action on secretary Khatiwada.

It is quite abhorring that even the person of the minister, very responsible person in politics, easily attack and threaten journalists flouting the rules.

Similarly, an office of the Naya Bikalpa weekly has been vandalized in the capital city in the night of December 13, 2012.
However, it is yet to be established that it is related to press freedom violation.

Freedom Forum condemns this too and strongly urges the concerned administration to find the culprit and mete out justice.
