Supreme Court summons Prime Minister and Attorney General on Dekendra' Case

The Supreme Court (SC) on January 18, 2013 ordered Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Attorney General Mukti Pradhan to appear before the SC in persons within seven days to furnish clarifications whether they involved in the contempt of court pertaining to the ongoing investigation on the murder of journalist Dekendra Thapa.

The SC issued the order in response to a writ petition filed on January 13, 2013, asking the SC to mete out punishment to the extent possible to the Prime Minister, and Attorney General because the orders and letters they made and wrote to the district attorney of Dailekh were a contempt of court.

The writ was filed jointly by advocate Kamal Prasad Itani and Santosh Neupane.

Earlier, on January 17, 2013, District Court Dailekh remanded the five persons accused in the murder of journalist Dekendra Thapa to 12 more days in judicial custody for further investigations. This is the third time their judicial custody was extended.
