Dilip Singh, reporter with the Nayapatrika daily from Siraha, a district in the southern plain, was assaulted by a local while returning home from office on 25 April 2014.
"Local Bechan Ram assaulted me, saying I was a journalist and becoming 'hero'," said reporter Singh to Freedom Forum's media monitoring desk.
Reporter Singh is still undergoing treatment at a local hospital for he received injuries on face.
Although the attack does not show the direct link to the news reporting and dissemination, it has panicked the journalist thereby halting regular reporting which obviously hinders people's right to information.
Freedom Forum condemns the attack, for it signals deteriorating atmosphere for the journalists to carry out independent reporting, and urges the local authority to nab the attacker and take necessary action. The FF also wishes speedy recovery of reporter Singh.
