Bhanubhakta Niraula, Managing Director at Himal FM of Solukhumbu, a district in the eastern mountain of Nepal, was attacked by the district leaders of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist), Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari and Ashwin Thapa, over a news story the FM aired on June 10.
"Why did you air the news about peace committee," threatened Rajbhandari and Thapa, kicking and attacking me with fist near the District Administration Office, said Niraula, adding that his eye glass was broken and got injury on face.
"I'm taking medicine. But the local administration is denying to register a complaint against the attackers," Niraula shared the plight with Freedom Forum's Media Monitoring Desk.
Freedom Forum condemns the incident which has grossly violated the press freedom. The local authority must register the complaint and arrest the attackers and take punitive measures against them.
