A community radio, Narayani FM, at Birgunj, a city in the southern plains of Nepal was attacked by an unknown gang in the night of February 20.
According to reporter for the Nagarik daily, Ritesh Tripathi, a guard in duty, Brij Mohan Yadav, was also thrashed by the assailants. He received severe injury on head. Yadav has been receiving treatment at a hospital.
Moreover, they smashed the window glasses and left the FM in the night.
Reporter Tripathi said the reason behind the attack is yet to the ascertained.
Freedom Forum vehemently condemns the attack on FM radio, as it is the attack on press freedom and freedom of expression. The local authority is strongly urged to search the assailants and bring them to book. Also, FF wishes for speedy recovery of the injured guard Yadav.
