Journalists injured while covering demonstration

Yet again due to security official intimidation, three journalists were injured while covering news of a demonstration by local people against security officials in the Mahendranagar. The incident occurred on August 23, 2018. Kanchanpur lies in Province 7.

Three journalists namely Kundan Raj Pandeya Station Manager of Radio Kanchanpur and Mahesh Prasad Joshi, Press advisor of Pawandut Yatayat were injured after security officials attacked them while covering the ongoing protest in the area.

Freedom Forum condemns the intimidation against the journalist and urges the government to stop such actions that obstruct journalist's right to free reporting.  Attacking journo physically and inflicting injuries is the sheer violation of press freedom.

The police intervention against journalists is a serious threat to free press and freedom of expression guaranteed by the constitution. FF urges the concerned authority to take action against the attackers and respect press freedom.
