Journalist at Dhanusha misbehaved and ill-treated by Security Officials

Freedom Forum is concerned over an incident where security officials misbehaved and ill-treated journalist Pramod Kumar Saha during the reporting at Janakpur of Dhanusha District on December 17, 2018.  Dhanusha district lies in Province 2 of Nepal.

According to the information sent by FF's representative for Province 2 Rajan Singh, journalist Saha was misbehaved while covering the clash between the security officials and students at Ramswaroop Ramsagar Multiple College.  The student had sealed the college demanding the continuation of regular class while security officials forcefully tried to open the sealed lock. Journalists Saha was trying to capture the ongoing conflict between the students and police officials, where suddenly he was dragged outside.  The ill-treatment even damaged his waistcoat.

Journalist Saha who is associated with Janata TV and Janaknandani FM was misbehaved and physically-ill treated by the officials even after showing the press card.

Freedom Forum condemns the incident as it is a sheer violation of press freedom. Journalists' right to free reporting and right to information is constitutionally guaranteed.  Attacking and intimidating journalists should stop and concerned authority  should immediately take action against the culprit. Every person should respect journalists right to free reporting.
