Employees of Radio Madhesh, a local community radio located in Janakpur city have locked the radio office reasoning nonpayment of salary to them for more than seven months. Janakpur city lies in Province 2 of Nepal.
According to the FF's representative for Province No 2, Rajan Singh, employees have closed the radio station from 20 July.
Pappu Adhikari, a journalist working at the FM shared, "Our seven months' salary is due. FM Manager Rajesh Thakur did not respond to our demand, so we are compelled to take this step." All the employees working in the FM has supported the closure as FM has not even provided appointment letter to the journalist working there and has disagreed to talk with the employees about this matter.
To this, FF strongly urges the FM Radio not to deprive the journalists of rightful remuneration. Nonpayment of salary to the journalist is against the right guaranteed Working Journalist Act, 1993.
Similarly, even the FM employees need to hold constructive dialogue with the FM administration to sort out the problems at the earliest, so that citizens' rights to information would not be curtailed.
