NEWSPAPERS PUBLICATION HALTS IN JHAPA

AUGUST 13, 2008  A meeting of the editors of all daily newspapers and weeklies published from Jhapa district decided to halt publishing newspapers for an indefinite period from Wednesday, July 20.
A total of seven daily newspapers and over a dozen weeklies are published from the district.

The meeting that held at Birtamod of the district on Tuesday took such a decision in the light of acute shortage of petroleum products, continuous transportation strike and prevalent insecurity in recent days triggered by sparking protests against Vice-president Parmananda Jha for taking oath in Hindi language.

According to the information available to Freedom Forum, they were compelled to take such decision as they were facing several problems chiefly for distribution and reporting news due to fuel shortage and transportation strike.

The editors also decided to join their hand to the ongoing protests for the cause of nationalism, stated in a press release issued after the meeting.
