Freedom Forum is concerned over a statement made by District Superintendent of Police, Uddhav Singh Bhat in a public program against journalist Dayaram Pandit and Radio Paurakhi at Bajura District on 25th January,2018.
According to information received by FF, DSP Bhat threatened journalist that he would shut down the FM station as news about police involvement in obstructing road expansion was broadcasted in the radio. DSP claims the news has been made without investigation. Being based on this fact, DSP threatened journalist of arresting him if he continues writing news about police.
Speaking in the public forum DSP directly asked journalist," Who are you? , What is your position to write news against us? I will show you my power."
Talking with FF media monitoring desk, journalist Dayaram Pandit informed that he felt nervous and scared when he was threatened in a public program.
FF condemns the incident as it is sheer violation of press freedom violation. Threatening journalist for writing news by a government official is abuse of authority and rule of law. FF urges the concerned authority to look after the matter seriously and take action against the security official.
