Freedom Forum is concerned over the death threat issued to Kathmandu based Journalist Binod Dhakal for publishing article about Dhurmush- Suntali Foundation's construction of international cricket stadium in Bharatpur Metropolitan City. Kathmandu lies in Province 3.
Journalist Dhakal is the Editor-in-Chief of Janaprahar weekly, who is also associated with Lahuri TV and Dainik Nepal Online.
Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation a few days back received threats from some local groups and had to suspend its construction.
Following that, Journalist Dhakal had published an article analyzing the various perspective of Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation's work in Dainik Nepal Online. The article was published on 31 May.
In a telephonic conversation with FF, Journalist Dhakal said, “I have been receiving a series of threat messages through social media from different parts of the country to not speak about Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation's work.''
FF condemns the incident as it is a sheer violation of press freedom. Nepal's constitution itself, guarantees journalists right to free reporting on the issues of public concern and public should also cooperate them to ensure free flow of information. FF strongly urges the concerned authority to address the issue seriously and citizens to be aware of the rights of free press and journalists.
