Fellow journalists attack editor

-Update-
Editor and publisher of Uttargaya daily and Nuwakot Jagaran weekly Shiva Devkota was brutally attcked in Nuwakot on September 21. Nuwakot district lies in the Bagmati Province having the federal capital Kathmandu.

Talking to Freedom Forum 's media monitoring desk, Devkota said, "Some members of the Federation of Nepali Journalists in district chapter attacked me during membership distribution program. The group of 10 FNJ members kicked and thrashed me for standing against 'undue decision' of membership distribution to the non-journalists at the program."

He sustained injury on his chest and has been receiving treatment at Grande Hospital, Kathmandu.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at District Police Office, Nuwakot, according to Devkota.

"We are informed about the incident. However, no any complaint has been filed on the case yet" , said Tul Bahadur Karki, District Police Chief.

The attack by fellow journalists merely for standing for professional image and ethical journalism is condemnable. FF urges the concerned authority to investigate the incident fairly so that it would help ensure justice to the victim journalists. The fellow journlaists must be tolerant to each other. Only professional and ethical journalism help save integrity.

On October 14, FNJ Nuwakot Chapter's President Kapil Dev Khanal, Secretary Jagadish Khanal and Member Sujit Bhandari have been released on bail with charges following Nuwakot District Court's arrest order against those three.
