Jeetendra Khadka, Saptari district-based correspondent for Kantipur National Daily, was threatened with life by the cadres of Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) Rajan Mukti Samuha on January 26 taking up the issue of news coverage in Kantipur. The threat was given to journalist Khadka via telephone for publishing the news on Monday about the demonstration of businessperson against the bandh called by Morcha cadres and the scuffle between locals and Morcha cadres.
According to Khadka, member of talk team on behalf of Morcha, Manoj Mukti warned him of taking life.
Freedom Forum deplores the incident and asks the local administration to bring perpetrators to justice. It is the latest incident of press freedom violation in Nepal where journalists are being attacked, harassed and obstructed.
