Journalists still under threat

At a time when journalists across the country are passing through a tough time due to rising murder, threats and obstructions, Lekhnath Adhikari, sub-editor for Nepal Samacharpatra and Yashoda Timsina, senior correspondent for Nepal Weekly were also threatened of life by a masked group in the capital on Thursday night.Journalists Adhikari and Timsina are husband and wife. The group of five persons issued life threat to the couple when they were outside home asking their helper at home that "was that the home of journalists Lekhnath and Yashodha".

"Though we had no annoyance with anybody but the indirect threats to them have worried hem much”, couple said, demanding with the government probe into the incident and guarantee security to journalists across the country.

Freedom Forum comments this incident as another serious threat to press freedom and freedom of expression in Nepal. The Forum asks the government to chalk out special plan to curb rising number of attacks and atrocities against journalists and to make congenial environment for the journalists to propel their profession without any obstructions.
