Business entrepreneur threatens journalist in public

Editor at https://www.ijalas.com/ Pradeep Pariyar received threat of attack for covering news on January 2 and 6 in Jhapa. Jhapa lies in Koshi Province of Nepal.

Talking to Freedom Forum, journalist Pariyar shared that Birtamod Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s President Prakash Shiwakoti spoke abusive for Pariyar during his speech at a public program on January 6. Shiwakoti also said that journalist Pariyar wrote fake news about him and he has been spreading fake messages in the media. Pariyar had published two news critical to Shiwakoti on the news portal a year ago.

"Recently, on January 2, my colleagues also informed me that Shiwakoti had threatened of attack upon me using his goons. I have shared about the incident with my colleagues and local police station", said journalist Pariyar.

Freedom Forum condemns the incident as it is sheer violation of press freedom. Such incident may create fear among fellow journalists thus leading to self-censorship. The concerned should adopt legitimate ways for any concern over the published content rather that threatening a journalist in public.

The security authority is also strongly urged to ensure safety of journalists to avoid any untoward incident.
